This weekend, I had the honor of celebrating the wedding of good friends Paige and Aaron at the Wishing Hills Barn in Missouri Valley, Iowa. This event was extra special because my wife, Molly, got to join me as a guest. It’s not the first time she’s come along, but it’s rare that she gets to see what I do every Saturday night, so this was a treat for both of us!
The road trip was about three hours, but that’s just another reminder that The Sound Doctor DJ and Photo Booth will travel anywhere to bring the energy to your wedding or event. With Molly by my side, we made the drive together, and she even lent a hand with the setup, making everything more efficient. Molly always handles the uplights, which not only saves time but helps create a stunning atmosphere for the night.
Paige and Aaron’s wedding was filled with emotion, as they had lost both Paige’s father and her brother in the past year. The ceremony was incredibly touching, with mentions of her father, Bob, and brother, Taylor, having "the best seats in the house." The ceremony space was beautifully arranged with benches offering the perfect view of the couple. We, of course, provided ceremony coverage and had a new experience coordinating with sign language interpreters, which was such a powerful addition to the day.
After the ceremony, guests were eager to escape the heat and enjoy cocktail hour inside the barn. It was a scorcher outside, but the venue’s grand staircase provided the perfect backdrop for the bridal party’s grand entrance. It’s one of my favorite entrance spots to date! The multi-tiered staircase gives everyone a natural focal point, and the bridal party made the most of it with fun and energetic introductions.
Next came the speeches, and Paige’s maid of honor, Raelea, delivered a showstopper. She dug into an old Facebook trend from their high school days called “Truth Is,” where Paige had posted about how perfect Aaron was. Raelea incorporated this into her speech, and it was not only heartfelt but also one of the funniest speeches I’ve heard in a long time. It was a solid 9.5 on the speech scale, and trust me, I’ve heard plenty of them!
After the laughs, Paige’s uncle gave an emotional tribute to her father and brother, setting the tone for the ceremonial dances. Paige and her mom shared a special dance, accompanied by a slideshow of her father and brother that we projected onto a screen. At The Sound Doctor DJ and Photo Booth, we take the time to ensure everything is perfectly synced, so no matter if you’re watching on the front of our booth or on the projection, it’s always seamless and impactful.
Once the ceremonial dances wrapped up, the energy on the dance floor skyrocketed. From country to pop to classic throwbacks, we played a little bit of everything to keep the dance floor packed all night long. Since meeting in high school, Paige and Aaron have built a beautiful life together, and their wedding wasn’t just a celebration of love—it was a celebration of life, resilience, and everything in between. I’m so grateful to have been part of their day, and Wishing Hills Barn is definitely a venue I’d love to return to. Hopefully, it won’t be another long stretch before I’m back!
